Spinal decompression is a non-invasive treatment that stretches your spine to provide instant pain relief. It is effective for treating back and neck pain from a range of different conditions. These include sciatica, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, or any injury that causes your discs to compress. After a thorough assessment, we may use spinal decompression as part of a customized treatment plan to help you find the relief you need.
What is it?
Spinal decompression therapy is an all-natural treatment for back pain that doesn’t rely on risky surgery or pain medication. This treatment uses the same basic “spine stretching” concepts that chiropractors have been using for decades.
Spinal decompression is a form of traction that gently stretches your back. Quite often, back pain is due to compression of the spine, which forces discs out of their regular position. Since your nervous system extends the length of your spine, these misalignments can cause discs to press on the nerves. This, in turn, creates quite a lot of pain. The idea behind spinal decompression therapy is to restore the optimum amount of space between your vertebrae and relieve pain.
How does it work?
For the treatment, you lie on a two-piece motorized table. On that table, a harness wraps around your hips, then attaches to the lower portion of the table. Meanwhile, we secure your upper body to the top of the table. When activated, the lower part of the table moves back and forth, while the upper part remains stationary.
During the therapy, your discs will receive oxygen and nutrients to stimulate the healing process. Also, fluid will be allowed to re-enter and hydrate the discs, restoring their natural shape. Through varying cycles of stretching and relaxation, the pressure between your discs and along your spine will be reduced, which will help relieve your pain. Each session can take up to twenty minutes, and the doctor will determine whether your legs can be elevated at the knee based on the level of pain.
